Good Luck Clover

Good Luck Clover

By Hali Davis

Materials:
For this example I used a sold green yarn so you could better see the stitches. However, the lion brand Ferris Wheel colorway Evergreen, or the Malabrigo colorway Immortal would work amazing for this project as the color variations would truly bring a magical touch to the four leaf clovers. For this pattern I used two strand of yarn because it adds bulk and ultimately makes a larger four leaf clover. I like to make my decorations as large as possible, it lends to more ways you can use it. For example, you can strand them together for a clover bunting, table confetti, hanging them in the window or on cabinets. There are so many possibilities!

Notes
-Written in standard US terms
-See the Stitch abbreviation above for reference.
-Blocking the shamrock may help train your clover to lay flat and have a better shape. However it is not necessary and the texture adds some character when the leaf curls a little.
I designed this clover to be very full, the yarn does not lay flat. I personally like the look of a full clover. However if this look is not for you that’s ok too, a trick to thin it out would be to remove 3 hdc from each leaf section. So what you would do is 1 hdc every time it calls for 2 hdc.

Good Luck Clover

Round 1: ch 6, sl st into the first stitch to make a circle. (If you are using one strand use less stitches and a smaller hook ex. Size 6) you may also use a magic ring if you want a smaller circle in the center.

Round 2: sc 12 around the circle, sl st into first sc. (If you want to do a three leaf clover then do 9 sc around the circle.)

Round 3: ch 6, skip 2 stitches and in the 3rd stitch sl into ring. Repeat three more times to create the base of your four leafs. (For a three leaf clover, ch 4, skip 2 stitches and in the 3rd stitch sl into ring. Do this two more times to create a total for three leafs.)

Step 4: chain 15 for the stem, in 2nd ch from the hook hdc, hdc in the next two st, so there are 3 hdc in total at the base of the stem. sc in the remaining 11 st to fill in the stem. Sl st into initial sl st of the stem

Round 4: in the ch 6 hoop you are going to work the leaf.
2 hdc, 1 dc, 3 tr, 1 dc, 2 hdc, 1 dc, 3 tr, 1 dc, 2 hdc.
To end this leaf sl st into the same stitch where you connected the chain of 6.

Repeat the steps in round 4 for each leaf petal.

When you get to the last leaf sl st into the first st of the stem.

Cut the yarn and weave in all your ends.
